INDIA: Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm VAYU will it or won't it make landfall? (+15 Maps)

UPDATED 12:35pm NZT / 6:05am IST --- Just minutes after our first update today on Cyclone VAYU forecasters at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center updated the forecast tracking - and by quite a bit. The change to the forecast track may have a significant impact on the forecast for India (a more positive one).


INDIA: Cyclone VAYU now 'severe', may become 'extreme', Mumbai impacted (+9 Maps)

Vayu has now been classed as a 'Very Severe Cyclonic System", or VSCS, and maybe become an "Extreme Severe Cyclonic System", or ESCS, on Wednesday according to authorities. WeatherWatch.co.nz says that just like other parts of the globe there is an entirely local system in India and Pakistan for tropical storms.

Cyclone Ann is going to make landfall in northern Queensland on Wednesday as a Category 1 tropical cyclone, or very near that strength. It means Ann is more of a sea and rain event than a wind event - although winds may be strong enough to cause some lower end damage to trees and buildings.

Tropical Cyclone Ann is located over the Coral Sea and continues to churn westwards directly towards the northern Queensland coastline with landfall expected on Wednesday.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says Ann remains a Category 1 cyclone with low end damaging winds, heavy rain and dangerous seas.

We have an out of season tropical cyclone in the Coral Sea called Ann which formed over the weekend. The tropical storm poses no threat to New Zealand but is expected to track westwards into northern Queensland as a weakened tropical low later this week.
