Weekend downpours in both main islands, temps increase

Warmer air will spread over more parts of NZ this weekend but it will come with showers, some downpours and maybe a few thunderstorms in the mix too. There will still be large dry areas, but showers will bubble up – especially on Saturday – while patchy rain/showers affect the North Island more so on Sunday as some wet weather comes out of the Tasman Sea.

Next week there may be some heavy West Coast rain and a boost in nor’west winds again.

TROPICAL STORM?
We also take a big picture look at the tropics, with an area of low pressure north of Samoa worth monitoring next week. While the maps we use in our videos show no storm yet, longer range maps from GFS (America) show a potential tropical cyclone later next week. The chance of this happening is currently rated “Low” by WeatherWatch, but “possible”. It’s worth noting the tropical cyclone season doesn’t start officially until November 1.
