Anyone seen the meteor went towards west around 23:58 today?

Tom Hughes-Ross on 29/03/2020 7:39pm

Hi Phil,

Just wondering how far behind in terms of drought we are here in rural north west Auckland (Kumeu area). It feels like we have had quite a bit of rain but I’m surprised to see how dry the ground is still. Thanks, Tom

WW Forecast Team on 29/03/2020 9:45pm

Hey Tom, good question. The rain has been very hit and miss so not everyone has relief. Ultimately we need an 80 to 120mm rain event over a couple days to really make an impact. Even half of that would be very helpful but may not be quite enough to put a nail in this drought event. Showers next 7 days won’t be much, especially with evaporation. Fingers crossed for rain around the middle of April.

Hi Guys – we are based in Twyford Hastings and have seen in some models 100mm+ forecasts and with hail likely. we are pip fruit growers and with large volumes of high vague crop due to harvest this week, can you comment on our likelihood of getting through unscathed ??

WW Forecast Team on 29/03/2020 7:48am

Hi Andrew

If hail comes down tomorrow it will probably be of the smaller variety or maybe none at all. Heavy rain is possible although at this stage it may sit just offshore, it depends on the exact placement of an occluded front which is lying on the coastal fringe tomorrow. If it comes onshore a touch there could be the potential for very heavy rain, but if it’s just offshore it may mean only a few showers or spits.

Tuesday could produce isolated heavy showers with a chance of bigger hail late afternoon / early evening but this may be more inland about the ranges then clearing there at night.

Cheers
Aaron

Hi guys – how many mm of rain do you think Taupo ( kinlock) is due tomorrow afternoon and over what period – considering it says thunderstorms! Concerned farmer !!

WW Forecast Team on 29/03/2020 3:52am

Hi there

Bit of a hit and miss scenario for you tomorrow. Thunderstorms due to their nature means you could get heavy downpours in one area then down the road you may not get much, so a bit hard to put a figure on anything. Isolated heavy falls may deliver 10 to 30mm in a short period of time, perhaps a little more if you are lucky. But on the other end of the scale if you miss it might be a 3 to 5mm kind of day.

Hope it goes your way!

WW
