Everyone is talking about El Niño so in this month’s update we discuss when it may be forming and what that might mean for New Zealand and Australia. For now we are still in NEUTRAL which means anything can happen from any direction.
There are some powerful high pressure zones in the mix, but they don’t all join together, meaning we have the chance of rainmakers in between them. But the large size of these highs means we can have extended dry spells too.
We have some cold blasts in the mix, low pressure for both Australia and NZ, and the rainfall maps for the next couple of weeks to make sense of it all. There is wet weather for both nations at times, but whether that falls in the driest areas is harder to know when you go out more than a week or two.
