Wednesday Newsfeed: Westland’s deluge, but rain welcome for other regions

Windy northerly quarter winds continue to build as a powerful high exits to our east and a low deepens over the Tasman Sea and heads towards NZ.

The sub-tropical or northerly component to this low will see areas of heavy rain – slowed down by the blocking high to the east. Rainfall totals in parts of Westland will be high enough to cause slips and flooding – and local residents should be up to date with the very latest MetService Warnings & Watches. Several hundred millimetres of rain is still possible in parts of Westland.

However it’s not all bad news for the rest of the country with many dry places wanting rain. Wednesday and Thursday both have windier northerly quarter winds (NE, N and NW directions).

Wetter weather is likely on Thursday and Friday over the North Island but most likely in Westland and other South Island regions over today/Wednesday and Thursday.

Our new app has expected rainfall totals – hourly and daily for 10 days out and is the most accurate in NZ.

Our new app has localised expected rainfall numbers – for those with our new Alerting side of the app now is a great time to calibrate your rain warnings after few events so far this year to test it.

We’re getting calls from farmers and event planners wanting to know how much rain is coming – but our new alerting app is designed to let you have the power of knowing the answers at a fingertip – and getting push notifications on your devices alerting you to weather information you have asked to be alerting to. For just $6.99 a month it’s a low cost way to be better prepared for severe weather events for your farm or business + you can get MetService warnings pushed automatically to your devices covering multiple locations.
