As of 2024 we will no longer be publishing questions related to weather forecasts if they are answered via our hyper-local hourly & 10 day forecasts, weather maps and regular daily and monthly weather & climate videos.
Weβre a small NZ business with limited resources to respond to general weather questions. Our social media pages may be helpful to you, especially if you want to often talk (or groan!) about your local weather.Β You can find more resources from us here if thatβs your thing.

Thanks for your support!
Donβt forget to check out our RuralWeather.co.nzΒ website (great for event planning or attending + camping!) and also, our brand new Weather Alerting App!

Hello WW, apologies if this info is available but i believe you used to show accumulative rainfall for the previous 30 day period for certain areas in your Rural platform? Im specifically interested in weather station Whangamata (Whang107) if available.
thanks

Hi Bob, thanks for the message. Iβm sorry but weβve never been able to display that data. NIWA wanted to charge us literally millions of dollars to access Government stored historical data. The Government has there third independent review about NIWA and MetService on now β but itβs worth noting the last two reviews were ignoredβ¦so weβre not holding our breath for change.
As for the observations network β they display current data only, but if you search that station ID in the Wunderground website you may be able to find more data there.
Itβs a shame NIWA and the NZ Government are the only modern/western nation on the planet to make it next to impossible for private outlets to share historical weather data freely. Itβs like a public Library charging you 20 or 30 times what you earn in a year just to take out one book for a week.

Bit of a strange story where the forecasting outlets all say itβs not likely to happen, but the Herald headlines it anyway due to a tweet.

yes it said in that article its not expected for auckland. might just be some hail but maybe not even that its still too far out. why do they do this? this is why i prefer your guys weather stories and not theirs. i only go there for other news like political and sports and things. but weather this is the site to go.

Hauraki Gulf Weather (quoted in that story) is an excellent source of weather and he puts out some really great info.
From a news point of view our rule is simple: Forecast the weather that is most likely to happen, not the weather we most want to get.

yes i look at hauraki gulf weather too. keep up the good work guys nearly at the end of 2024. i would like to see snow settle in auckland though. so i dont have to pay at snowplanet or drive to ruapaehu.
