Wednesday’s national forecast – Lows either side

Two low pressure centres sit either side of the country today, the one out east is the strongest and drives in rain or showers to some eastern regions. A few showers for the upper North Island also in a southwest airflow.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Occasional showers, easing a touch in the afternoon with a few sunny spells possibly breaking through, cloud thickens with further showers in the evening. Southwesterlies tend to the west late afternoon.
Highs: 15 – 17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain eases to showers in the morning, snow about the Central Plateau above 800m eases. Southerlies tend to the west after midday.
Highs: 9 – 15

Eastern North Island

Rain eases to showers in the morning for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, clearing evening. Wairarapa has rain ease to showers in the afternoon, clearing later in the evening. Strong southwesterlies with gales about the coast easing later in the day.
Highs: 11 – 16

Wellington

Rain, easing to showers in the afternoon. Strong southerlies.
High: 10 – 11

Marlborough & Nelson

Early showers clear Nelson then afternoon sun may break through. Showers for Marlborough. Southwesterlies tend east to northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 13 – 16

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, showers or some rain north of about Banks Peninsula. The Mackenzie Country may see sun with a touch of high cloud. Southwesterlies, strong north of Banks Peninsula about the coast, easing later in the day.
Highs: 11 – 13

West Coast

Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Light winds tend southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 15 – 18

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, coastal Otago is mostly cloudy. Easterly winds.
Highs: 10 – 13
