Wednesday’s headlines (x3): Showers in the east, Cold start inland, Afternoon temperatures

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

SHOWERS CLING ON IN THE EAST

We still have high pressure starting to move in from the Tasman Sea today however a southwest airflow is clinging on a little longer then yesterdays outlooks.

Showers for Canterbury up through to Wairarapa along the coastal fringe are a little slower in clearing but will slowly peel away, Banks Peninsula sees showers clear this evening.

Winds are very strong right along the east coast also but will gradually ease especially later on / overnight.

For any remaining wind watches or warnings from Metservice please see this page here.

STILL A COLD START INLAND

Despite the strong southwesterly winds along the eastern coastal fringe, inland areas have a cold start as skies will be clear and winds light there.

AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES

The upper North Island today through till Friday will have afternoon highs in the early twenties. Elsewhere has highs in the mid to late teens, as we get into Thursday and especially Friday temperatures in the east and perhaps far south will start to climb into the early twenties.
