WeatherWatch.co.nz will soon be providing more regular commentary on seasonal and monthly forecasting as climate news dominates NZ’s headlines.

For several years there has been a strong need for an independent voice in NZ with monthly and seasonal forecasting and through the power of IBM’s Watson Super Computer WeatherWatch.co.nz forecasters now have access to data and mapping that will help farmers and growers better plan for trends. On top of official scientific reports from Australia and US Governments we expect to give clearer outlooks for those who rely on the weather the most.

Unlike Government climate outlooks in NZ (which can be highly confusing with comments like “a 50% chance of 50% normal rainfall”) WeatherWatch will be clearer, more simplistic and designed to answer just two very simple questions:

1. Will it be warmer or cooler over the next period ahead?
2. Will it be wetter or drier in the coming weeks and months?

WeatherWatch.co.nz looks set to produce our first report as early as late November to cover the upcoming summer season.

We’ll also be looking at Australia’s climate – because so much of NZ’s weather comes from there.

“This is all part of our commitment to New Zealanders who are working hard growing food and looking after livestock, to give them more of a one stop shop for everything they need weather and climate and to try to answer more of their questions to help them” says head forecaster Philip Duncan.

WeatherWatch.co.nz will also be publishing more climate reports in 2020 from scientists at Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) and America’s NOAA and through our affiliation with CNN International Weather and their meteorological team in Atlanta, Georgia.
