A low pressure system west of the South Island in the Tasman Sea and a high centre to the southeast drags in an easterly quarter airflow over most of the country today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning cloud breaks to some sun, isolated showers late afternoon / evening about southern Auckland and Waikato. Showers may become heavy with some thunder then easing later in the day. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 20-25

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning sun then cloud thickens from midday, isolated showers develop late afternoon about inland areas. Showers may become heavy with thunderstorms then easing at night. Light winds.
Highs: 19-23

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, southeasterly winds tend northeast in the afternoon. There may be a shower from afternoon especially inland about the ranges then late evening rain starts to spread towards the coast.
Highs: 18-20

Wellington
Cloudy areas, chance of the odd shower otherwise mainly dry. Light northeasterly winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy, occasional showers or some rain, there may be areas of dry also especially nearer the coast. Light winds.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury
Patchy rain or drizzle, east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

West Coast
Cloudy for North Westland with patchy rain or showers, northerly winds. South Westland sees a mostly sunny morning then some cloud builds from afternoon as light winds tend onshore, showers develop about the ranges by evening.
Highs: 16-19

Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud with southeasterly winds, central Otago may see isolated showers late afternoon / evening. Coastal Otago has a mostly cloudy day with the chance of a drizzle patch mainly morning, east to
northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-21
