Tuesday Newsfeed: High pressure returns

A series of fronts moved north over the country yesterday, the remnants of these is lying near or over the North Island in the form of a stationary front meanwhile high pressure has moved in behind.

For the upper and eastern North Island expect cloudy periods today with showers (Wairarapa stays dry), rain this morning for northern Hawkes Bay and Gisborne across to Northland eases. In the west conditions are drier and sunnier with very warm temperatures, highs in the late twenties for inland Waikato. Winds are from the east or southeast but tend onshore this afternoon for northern Taranaki through to western Waikato.

The South Island has very nice weather in the west and south, in the east north of Otago Peninsula it is a little cloudy but sun should increase from this afternoon. Our familiar friend the easterly freshens up after midday for Canterbury and coastal Otago. Temperatures are warmest for inland areas getting into the mid twenties, highs in the late teens or around 20 degrees for coastal spots.
