Subtropical low vs subantarctic energy = typical early Autumn setup

A low pressure zone leaving Queensland tonight may brush the very top of the North Island midway through this week bringing cloud, some showers or rain, and a building easterly quarter flow.

But this week kicks off with both a southerly flow (fading) and high pressure again in our area.

By the end of the week a colder southerly comes back in again, with some windy weather around Friday and/or Saturday, before easing again further on Sunday.

High pressure is still the more dominant force to New Zealand’s weather despite energy from both the subtropics and subantarctic region both trying to move in – a classic Autumn setup.
