A low pressure zone will slowly cross the North Island over the coming days, bringing hit and miss pockets of heavy rain, followed by a cold southerly change which will bring snow into the South Island mountains, ranges and some hills.
The slow moving nature of the low (stuck between two strong high pressure zones) means rainfall totals in some areas may exceed 100mm over a few days. This may still move around a bit so check back in Wednesday’s video update for the latest.
Going into the weekend a colder southerly quarter airflow will continue with a few showers, but large dry areas developing ahead of the next high pressure zone.
