Saturday’s national forecast – Rain, North Island

A front slides out of the Tasman Sea today bringing rain to the North Island with a few heavy falls, the South Island sees unstable conditions for the lower half about inland areas.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy with a few showers, rain too although more in the west. Light winds.
Highs: 21-23


Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy with rain about Taranaki spreading elsewhere by midday, rain may be heavy at times from afternoon, easing overnight. Light northerlies.
Highs: 19-23


Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy with rain from midday, Gisborne may stay fairly dry though. Light winds.
Highs: 22-26


Wellington
Mostly cloudy, the odd spit then rain from midday. Northerly winds.
Highs: 20-23


Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy, chance of a spit from late afternoon especially about the Sounds. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-25


Canterbury
Morning cloud then sunny spells, isolated showers develop inland about the foothills during the afternoon, one or two could be heavy with thunder for South Canterbury. Light southerlies in the morning, afternoon east to southeast winds.
Highs: 19-25


West Coast
Showers south of about Greymouth, perhaps the odd heavy fall for South Westland. Further north expect a mix of sun and cloud. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 20-24


Southland & Otago
Chance of a shower otherwise expect sunny spells, showers more likely from afternoon especially inland with a risk of thunderstorms then expect evening widespread rain. Coastal Otago may stay dry for much of the day not seeing showers till evening. Southeasterly winds develop.
Highs: 17-25
