RainWatch – Rain moves in from the west this weekend

A ridge of high pressure keeps conditions mainly dry for the North Island on Saturday, some cloud may bring a light shower or drizzle patch to Kapiti and Taranaki at times. The South Island is under a northwest airflow and this brings rain to the West Coast, scattered falls spread into Southland during the day and also Otago overnight.

A low pressure system and front moves in from the Tasman Sea on Sunday, showers for much of the upper North Island then rain moves into Northland from afternoon as the aforementioned front closes in then spreading over the rest of the North Island during the evening and overnight.

The east coast of the South Island continues to have a mainly dry day, rain persists on the West Coast. Showers or patchy rain about Nelson / Marlborough picks up overnight with a chance of heavy falls.
