Some places will warm up over the next day or so as a nor’wester out of Australia moves across NZ, but on Sunday (the Winter Solstice/shortest day of the year) a colder change moves up the South Island, then into the North Island by Monday.

Next week an even colder change may arrive mid to late week, with the South Island looking especially cold for a time.
