Monday’s national forecast – Wet in the west (+12 maps)

A north to northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, rain or showers for western regions mostly although there may be some unstable activity in the South Island’s southeast this afternoon.

North Island

Some cloud and occasional showers for the western North Island, northwesterly winds. Showers may be heavy with a thunderstorm around Taranaki and Manwatu. A sunny warm day in the east.

South Island

Cloudy areas and a few showers for the West Coast with northerly quarter winds, rain moves in late afternoon or evening becoming heavy. Morning cloud in the east breaks away to sun, some high cloud eventually moves in though. There may be isolated showers with the chance of a heavy fall and or thunderstorm for the ranges of South Canterbury down through to the Catlins then clearing evening.
