A front moves very slowly northwards over the North Island today, meanwhile an area of low pressure passes over the South Island moving west to east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy, chance of a shower, more so from afternoon then some patchy rain develops this evening / overnight. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with showers, rain for Taranaki with the odd heavy fall possible then easing later in the afternoon or evening. Northerlies tend more northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, a few spots of rain may spread into the Wairarapa at times and then into Hakwes Bay and Gisborne this evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-21

Wellington
Morning scattered rain, some sun later in the afternoon. Gusty northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning rain clears then becoming mostly sunny this afternoon, breezy north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Canterbury
North of Banks Peninsula, conditions are mostly sunny all day, a southerly flick may move through late afternoon or evening with the chance of a shower. Banks Peninsula southwards conditions start out mainly sunny then southerlies developing during the morning bring cloud and a few showers, especially inland. The odd isolated shower may even be heavy then conditions drying out in the evening.

West Coast
Showers, some may be heavy at times mainly north of the Glaciers then easing later in the evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Southland & Otago
Areas of cloud and occasional sun for Southland. Cloudy areas about Otago, showers also with the chance of an isolated heavy fall then easing from mid afternoon and clearing evening. Light winds.
Highs: 13-16
