Monday’s Headlines (x3): Heavy rain in the north today, Northerlies all week, Warm in the east and north

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

HEAVY RAIN IN THE NORTH TODAY

A front connected into a low to the west of the North Island in the Tasman Sea brings rain for the North Island today with heavy falls for Auckland through to Bay Of Plenty, heavy rain eases for Auckland from this afternoon as a front passes over moving eastwards.

NORTHERLIES CHURN OVER NEW ZEALAND ALL WEEK

A large high to our east and revolving lows in the Tasman Sea churn northerly quarter airflow’s over the country all this week.

The precipitation percentage of normal map below paints the picture, you can see where it’s going to be wetter this week and where it will be drier. Red colouring (less rainfall expected than the statistical average), blue (more rainfall expected than the statistical average) and white (average amount of rainfall). The more intense either red or blue the more either scenario is true.

WARM IN THE EAST AND NORTH

The general outlook for the week ahead is warm temperatures in the east and north, high’s in the late teens or early twenties are likely. Tuesday and Wednesday in particular are warm days.

The West Coast has warm temperatures today getting into the early twenties but the rest of the week is relegated to the late teens at best.
