Latest New Year’s Eve forecast

WeatherWatch.co.nz says conditions are looking even better than they did this morning for many of the nation’s biggest party spots tonight.

Head weather analyst Philip Duncan says while cloud will still play a big part in many main centres, that is a good thing.  “The more cloud cover we have tonight the warmer conditions will be”.

Rain, that was predicted by other forecasters, failed to eventuate for Auckland and the city has had a sunny and cloudy morning as predicted by WeatherWatch.co.nz.  “This afternoon looks fairly cloudy but clear spells are likely later today with a mild evening.  There’s just a 10% risk of a shower”.

Mr Duncan says temperatures in Auckland, the Bay of Islands, Whangamata, Mt Maunganui and Gisborne look mild tonight, hovering around 20 and the late teens.

Increased cloud cover in the South Island may also help keep conditions a little warmer than originally predicted – but some light shower or drizzle activity is possible tonight along the southern and eastern coastlines of the South Island.

All other main centres, including Taupo and Wellington, should have mostly clear skies and temperatures in the mid to lower teens tonight
