Friday’s national forecast – Southwesterlies ease

A southwesterly airflow eases over the country today with a high pressure system starting to move in on the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and a few showers, clearing Waikato in the afternoon, Auckland in the evening. Bay Of Plenty is mainly dry with sunny areas increasing from afternoon. Northland may dry out for a time in the afternoon then showers pushing back in during the evening, especially in the east. Southwesterlies gradually change to the east or southeast.
Highs: 17-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Any early showers clear then sunny spells increase from afternoon, clear skies develop by evening. Southeasterlies, fresh about the coast, die out later in the day.
Highs: 10-17

Eastern North Island

A few showers, mostly in the morning but a few stragglers may continue into the afternoon. A mostly cloudy day with cloud breaking in the evening. Fresh to strong southwesterlies die out at night.
Highs: 12-16

Wellington

Any morning showers clear, sunny spells increase from afternoon. Fresh to strong southerlies ease at night.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny for Marlborough with southeasterly winds. Nelson has a mix of sun and cloud, afternoon northerlies, a few showers for Tasman.
Highs: 15-16

Canterbury

Morning showers, mainly about North Canterbury clear then sunny areas increase, showers may not clear Banks Peninsula till afternoon. Southwesterlies, strong about the coast ease then die out in the evening.
Highs: 11-15

West Coast

Sunny, some cloud for Buller with the chance of a shower later this afternoon or evening. Light winds.
Highs: 16-18

Southland & Otago
Any early showers clear, cloud breaks to sunny spells from afternoon, remaining cloud clears evening with southwesterlies dying out.
Highs: 11-15
