For the first time this year a southerly from off Antarctica is heading towards the South Island, followed by more polar air going into the weekend along with large dry areas developing.
The polar boundary, which surges over NZ at times during winter, will go as far north as Australia’s Norfolk Island – meaning everyone in NZ will feel the colder airflow this weekend.
We track snow, rain and wind flows over the next few days, weekend and into early next week.
We’re also monitoring a new low in the Tasman Sea next week.
