Labour Day severe weather risks – but large dry areas this weekend

High pressure shapes our weather this weekend but by Monday low pressure will affect the south bringing severe nor-west gales and some heavy West Coast rain. We track the movements and timing of both wind and rain this weekend – but also highlight the large dry areas expected around the nation.

Next week that front moves into the North Island around Tuesday, weakening as it heads north.

Westerly winds continue next week with the chance of some rain in the north and south of the country for a brief time.

Thanks for the feedback on improving our videos – we’ll look at having closer North Island and South Island rain maps next week (and a big thank you to Farmlands who are sponsoring some of our videos at the moment and the rainfall animations).
