14 severe weather warnings issued

14 severe weather warnings have today been issued ahead of a storm moving in from the west.

The storm, which WeatherWatch.co.nz rates as “moderate” will start to affect the South Island tomorrow ith heavy rain moving in from the west.

WeatherWatch.co.nz will have extra updates when the storm arrives, it’s likely to peak from Sunday to Tuesday.

Wairarapa
    Strong Wind Warning, Areas Affected: Canterbury, Marlborough, Wellington and Wairarapa Northwest winds are expected to reach severe gale at times from late Sunday morning until early Monday with gusts to about 130 km/h in exposed places.

    Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Westland In the 21 hours from about 9pm Saturday expect 200 to 300mm of rain in many areas with the bulk of the rain on Sunday morning when it is likely to peak at 30 to 40mm per hour. In the mountains between Haast Pass and Otira there could be up to 400mm in some places. On the lowlands north of Harihari a total of 100 to 150mm is forecast.
