Wednesday’s national forecast

A westerly airflow lies over the country with wet weather for the most part out west and dry sunnier weather in the east. Showers in the west may be heavy and thundery especially for the North Island, eastern Bay Of Plenty may see thundery downpours in the evening also.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Showers with northwesterly breezes, showers may be heavy and thundery for a time in the afternoon. About western Waikato there is a higher likely hood of rain in the afternoon with a few heavy falls, this eases overnight then the rain threat moves to eastern Bay Of Plenty with thunderstorms there.

Eastern North Island
Sunny and warm with some high cloud developing in the afternoon, northwest breezes. Some rain may spread across into Wairarapa in the evening.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island
Cloudy periods with breezy northwest winds, the odd shower now and then too. Expect rain possibly heavy for northern parts of Taranaki from afternoon with winds tending more northerly there, rain eases at night.
High: 18-20

Wellington
Sunny with a few clouds, brisk north to northwest winds, chance of a morning shower.
High: 17-18

Nelson
A mix of mostly sunny weather and a few clouds, chance or a morning shower otherwise dry. Northwesterly breezes.
High: 19

Marlborough
Sunny with breezy northwesterly winds, some cloud at times. About the Sounds expect a few morning showers.
Highs: 21-22

Canterbury
Sunny after any morning cloud clears, light winds.
Highs: 19-20

West Coast
Cloudy with areas of rain, possibly heavy and thundery early this morning for North Westland then again in the evening. Westerly breezes.
High: 16-17

Southland & Otago
Cloudy periods with westerly breezes, odd sunny spell at times mainly for North Otago. Fairly cloudy for Southland with the odd shower at times.
Highs: 14-16
