A cold southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Wintry cold showers, some may be heavy with thunder / hail in the afternoon. Fresh westerlies tend southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 11-13

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, becoming heavy with a chance of thunder / hail in the afternoon then easing in the evening. Snow lowers to 500m in the evening. Northwesterlies change southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 8-12

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, southwesterlies freshen in the afternoon bringing showers, rain moves into the Wairarapa with a chance of heavy falls then easing back to showers in the evening. Snow lowers to 500m in the evening. Gisborne has a mainly dry day then may see a shower in the evening.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington
Showers then rain from late morning as northerlies change gusty southerly. Snow lowers to 400m in the evening at which point rain eases back to showers.
High: 10

Marlborough & Nelson
Showers turn to rain in the morning becoming heavy about Marlborough then easing during the afternoon, conditions become mainly dry in the evening. Snow lowers to 500m around midday then 400m in the evening. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

Canterbury
Morning rain (possibly heavy) then easing and becoming restricted to Christchurch / Banks Peninsula by evening. Snow flurries to 400 or possibly even 300m from afternoon. Some sun may break through from afternoon about South and Mid Canterbury.
Highs: 7-8

West Coast
Mostly sunny, some early morning rain about North Westland clears. Southerly winds.
Highs: 9-11

Southland & Otago
Wintry showers with snow flurries to 400 or possibly even 300m, coastal Otago may have a mainly dry morning with some sun. Fresh southwesterly winds.
Highs: 7-9
