Wednesday’s national forecast

A cold southerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, showers easing in the east of the South Island and gradually clearing away. The North Island has rain or showers for most regions, clearing later in the day for most although hanging around for the east coast.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning rain eases to showers then possibly clearing for some. Brisk Sou’West winds. For the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty there may be a period of persistent showers pass through late afternoon / evening then clearing overnight.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

A southerly change develops in the morning bringing some rain, easing to showers in the afternoon for most although perhaps not easing about the Central North Island till evening. Showers mostly clearing in the evening.
High: 14

Eastern North Island

High cloud early on, a gusty southerly wind changes pushes northwards during the morning bringing rain which eases to showers in the evening. Perhaps not easing about Gisborne till overnight.
Highs: 14-17

Wellington

Showers, mostly clearing overnight. Strong to gale S winds.
High: 11

Marlborough & Nelson

Rain develops early on with strong southerly winds, easing to showers in the afternoon and clearing away.
Highs: 12-16

Canterbury

Showers and snow flurries to 400m ease during the day, mostly clearing by late afternoon. Cold south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-11

West Coast

Any early showers clear then becoming mostly sunny, southeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy about Southland and coastal Otago with the odd shower, a few snow flurries to 300m also but accumulations will be on the low side or perhaps non existent. Sunny areas for Central Otago and mainly dry. Cold south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-12
