Wednesday’s national forecast

A northwesterly airflow lies over the country today while a front moves onto the West Coast of the South Island bringing rain. A mostly cloudy day for the west of the North Island too, generally dry but the risk of a pesky light shower or two is there. Out east conditions are drier.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with light West to Nor’Westerly winds, chance of a light shower about otherwise mainly dry. Some sun possible from mid afternoon.
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with the chance of a light shower about Taranaki during the day, some rain moves into Taranaki overnight. Mainly dry elsewhere. West to Nor’Westerly winds.
High: 13-14

Eastern North Island

A mainly sunny day with light winds.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington

Cloudy areas with Nor’Westerly winds increasing from afternoon.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with some increasing high cloud for Marlborough. Nelson sees morning sunny areas then becoming cloudy during the afternoon. North to Nor’Westerly winds.
Highs: 14-18

Canterbury

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, Nor’Easterly winds.
High: 13

West Coast

Cloudy with patchy showers moving into South Westland by midday then creeping northwards in the afternoon. Rain by evening for North Westland. Northerly winds.
Highs: 11-12

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas with northwesterly breezes, light northeasterlies for coastal Otago. A few showers may spread from the west at times into about Queenstown but no further eastwards.

Highs: 12-14
