Low pressure, windy weather, hot and cold – it’s all in the mix over the coming days, bringing both hot and dry weather for some on Christmas Day, colder, wetter and cloudier for others.
A similar weather pattern remains for Boxing Day and going into the weekend for some – as potentially more low pressure moves in.
Coldest weather will be in the lower one third of the South Island, hottest weather in the eastern North Island.
The weather forecast from Sunday through to New Year’s Eve is not yet locked in – but we bring you the latest weather maps right up until New Year’s Eve.
Our next update will be tomorrow/Christmas Eve.

I’m just hoping that Wellington inbound flights don’t get cancelled on Xmas day!

Cheers Phil, Have been enjoying your weather updates this year and all the detail you provide and how accessible and easy to understand you make it! Top Job! Was hoping for that Summer Sun to start like it did a few weeks ago and stay! Hoping that sun turns up during a lot of peoples holiday break before work! If you could talk to the weather gods on that, would be greatly appreciated! 😉 lol Wishing you and your family a Great Christmas and Festive Season! – Wazza!

‘Coldest’? How about cooler as 17 is not classed as ‘cold’ and no mention of thunderstorms from MS compared to your computer generated forecasts..
