Heavy rain has arrived along the West Coast this morning as a stormy early spring weather pattern sets in. Rain clouds are also moving in to Taranaki, Northland, Auckland and Coromandel.
Winds are building around the Capital with gales lowering on the hills.
WeatherWatch.co.nz believes while the weather is unsettled today the worst weather won’t arrive for most until overnight and during Wednesday and Thursday.
Head weather analyst Philip Duncan says conditions behind the main fronts is very unsettled. “Going into Wednesday and Thursday those along the entire west coast are likely to peppered by heavy showers, some with thunder and hail and blustery westerlies. This is typical Spring weather”.
In Auckland a pool of low cloud and showers have set in creating a winter-like look with limited visibility and grey conditions blocking out most colour.
