Hurricane force winds (120km/h+) in central NZ, squalls around Auckland, heavy rain across Canterbury up to Wairarapa and a cold southerly bringing sub-zero temperatures and snow to the Southern Alps.

We have the latest on the severe gales for today and Friday, the heavy rain – and when the high from Australia will reach NZ (and when it may depart).
