VIDEO: Low pressure sinks over NZ this week, before powerful weekend high

Low pressure is dropping down over the country this week bringing wind and sub-tropical rain into the South Island too, along with calm spells and instability in the north.

The set up sees areas of heavy rain, mixed in with large dry and drizzly areas too. We have the latest on how this tracks through – and the latest on a very large high pressure zone likely coming into the country for the first weekend of May.

Hi Dunkie,
Met service are showing very heavy rain for Tuesday night for northland.
Just watched your Monday update and not showing that heavy rain at all?
What can we expect?

Thanks Harry

Hi Harry, our local forecast for you will have better details than my Big Picture video updates, but the rain around Northland is off and on, with heavy areas mixed in with dry – you can see it now on radar. The map in the video is for 12 noon Tuesday, and doesn’t show the rain moving southwards tonight (and further south over the country on Wednesday AM).
