Tuesday’s national forecast – Northeasterly airflow

A northeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, moving around a large high to our east. A front feeds into the West Coast bringing some heavy rain.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with patchy showers or drizzle, breezy northeasterlies, perhaps strong at times for Northland and Auckland.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy, a few spits or showers possible for Kapiti and Taranaki. Northeasterly winds, gusty or strong for coastal Taranaki.
Highs: 13-18

Eastern North Island

A mix of mid and high level cloud, northerly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington

Cloudy, a few spits of rain, breezy northerlies.
High: 15-16

Marlborough & Nelson

Rain for Nelson (heavy in the northwest / Tasman) spreads into Marlborough this morning. Breezy northerly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury

High cloud, rain in the high country, spots of rain may spread eastwards at times. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 11-17

West Coast

Rain with heavy falls, easing to showers in the morning for South Westland, rain pushes back down into South Westland overnight. Breezy northeasterlies.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
Morning cloud, mainly for Southland and about inland Otago, perhaps a few early spits (rain about the Lakes District), becoming mostly sunny by midday. Coastal Otago sees high cloud break to some sun, light north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-17
