A very large and slow moving high pressure zone will slip off NZ to the east of the North Island this weekend, allowing for a windier Labour Day Monday in the lower North Island and right across the South Island.

Rain will also become heavy on the West Coast this long weekend, with some spillover into Southland and Otago.
