Tuesday Newsfeed: A fresh southerly is approaching New Zealand

Today we’re in between systems. For the last day of April it’s not too bad for most. But there’s a deepening low/storm just north east of NZ (tracking south to south-east) and an incoming cold front fresh off the Southern Ocean moving towards the South Island.

The offshore storm should remain offshore but some wind, cloud and showers will likely brush eastern coastal parts of the North Island, anywhere from Northland to Hawke’s Bay. It doesn’t look like much.

A south-east breeze will cover the top of NZ for Tuesday with warmer nor’westers in central areas north of roughly Christchurch.

A cold front moves into Fiordland and south Westland today then spreads over into Southland and Otago later in the day and overnight into Wednesday.

On Wednesday that colder change moves up the South Island while the low to the east moves away offshore.

Cooler weather heads into the North Island on Thursday with a windier sou’wester ahead of the next high pressure zone.
