Tropical low brings flood/slips and gales risk, high humidity before cooler weekend

A tropical low is coming into New Zealand mid to late this week with heavy rain and severe gales, along with extremely high humidity for a time around the North Island in particular.

Some regions may see one or two month’s worth of rain in just a couple of days, in places that have already had more rain than usual in recent weeks. Slips and flooding are possible, especially around the North Island and maybe even some parts of the South Island. The low is interacting with other low pressure in the area and this means forecasts are still going to change a bit in the coming days as it’s slightly messy in it’s setup.

By Friday and Saturday a colder/cooler/refreshing southerly comes in – but again, heads up campers, trampers and boaties – more gales are possible for a time as the low moves south-east of NZ and those southerly winds come in.
