Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Morning rain easing to the odd patchy shower, northeasterly winds. The Bay Of Plenty and the Waikato may be dry to start then a few patchy showers move in during the afternoon.

Lower North Island

Areas of high cloud with northerly quarter winds, any patchy light showers in the west from Taranaki down to Wellington clear during this morning.

Upper South Island

Any morning rain in the west mostly clearing, cloudy areas remaining with light winds. Any early spots of rain out east (mainly Nelson and perhaps Marlborough) clear then expect mostly sunny weather, light winds.

Lower South Island

Mostly cloudy in the west with the odd patchy shower, dry areas too. Sunny areas and some high cloud elsewhere with northwesterly winds, possibly gusty about the Southland coastline.

What a difference 55mm of rain this morning made here just south of Waipu. This drop has boosted YTD total to 481mm. Now we can say the ground has had a good soaking and all water storage should be full. With temperatures quite mild overnight grass growth should still be good until the real cooler weather moves in. Autum really hasn’t hit full on yet as some trees have been reluctant to let go their leaves. Expect this to change from now though.

Well forecasted WW.
