Scorching weekend for some, widespread gales possible on Sunday

High pressure dominates NZ for the next week but on Sunday a storm just south of the country coupled with a high over Northland will create a belt of gusty winds with Severe Gales possible through the South Island and lower North Island.

The nor’wester, which is coming out of the NSW/Queensland interior, may see some eastern regions at the top of the South Island or lower/central North Island reach the mid-30s.

But there is also a cooler/refreshing change coming in next week – and apart from showers many regions don’t have high rainfall, although the West Coast may have over 300mm.

We have your NZ forecast for this week, this weekend and across next week.

Programming Notes:

  • Phil is off camera this week due to the New Year break. He returns back on screen next week.
  • We have no NZ weather video tomorrow/Thursday.
  • Our next update will be on Friday.

Hi! We are camping in raglan and wondered if the wind over next few days would require extra tent pegs or if it is going to stay quite mild?

I dont think its fair about the gales, do you. Should be fine and calm right through summer.
