Saturday’s national forecast

A southerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, within this flow a small area of low pressure moves onto the upper North Island (remnants of Ex TC Fehi) and may bring a few heavy showers.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Areas of cloud and sunny spells, a few showers in the afternoon / evening Waikato northwards, chance of a heavy fall even then easing at night. Southeasterly winds. Northland sees areas of cloud and the chance of a light shower or two during the day, west to southwesterly winds tend easterly overnight with some rain possible (mainly in the east).

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Any early showers clear, cloud breaks to sunny spells from afternoon. The odd shower possible afternoon onwards about northern Taranaki. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 17-23

Eastern North Island
Showers, becoming quite patchy from afternoon with dry spells becoming more frequent. Breezy southerly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Wellington
Cloudy areas, chance of a shower or two otherwise mainly dry. Breezy southeasterly winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning cloud then sunny areas increase from afternoon, fresh southeasterly winds. Afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 18-22

Canterbury
The odd shower, mainly Banks Peninsula northwards clearing in the afternoon. Sunny spells from afternoon south of Banks Peninsula. Southwesterly winds tend northeast in the evening.
Highs: 16-18

West Coast
Sunny weather, later in the evening or overnight a few showers may move into North Westland. Southeasterlies ease.
Highs: 20-25

Southland & Otago
Morning showers clear about coastal areas then expect some sun to break through with southwesterly winds, dying out in the evening. Mostly sunny inland with lighter winds.
Highs: 16-20
