A front sweeps over New Zealand this morning then mostly clearing away to the east this afternoon. Expect some unsettled weather with heavy rain for some regions especially Nelson. More details below.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning rain with a chance of heavy falls then easing to showers, showers may continue to be briefly heavy at times till evening. Breezy northwesterly winds could be briefly strong.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms then easing to showers before midday, showers still may be heavy and squally at times with a continued risk of thunder till evening. A few sunny spells possible into the afternoon also. Breezy northwesterly winds, strong about Taranaki for a time.

Eastern North Island
Some morning rain then clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon, gusty northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-22
 
Wellington
Morning rain with a few heavy falls and possible thunder then easing to showers, gusty northwesterly winds change southerly overnight.
High: 16
 
Marlborough & Nelson
Morning rain with heavy falls, especially about Nelson then clearing to sunny areas, overnight further rain moves in as northwesterlies change southerly.
Highs: 16-17
 
Canterbury
Morning rain possibly heavy then easing to showers, rain may not ease about South Canterbury till mid to late afternoon. Easterlies tend southwest by midday.
High: 11
 
West Coast
Rain with heavy falls first thing in the morning, winds tending to the east first thing then becoming variable. Fiordland staying mainly dry.
Highs: 13-14
 
Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy with east to southeasterly winds, a few showers. Some rain for coastal Otago with the chance of heavy falls then easing later in the day.
Highs: 9-10
