Road repairs to storm damaged NI roads ‘will take years’

Post-storm repairs to the Far North’s roads are expected to take two to three years.

672 slips were identified following July’s storm, with 392 directly caused by the severe weather event.

Initial repair costs were estimated at over 27 million dollars, however a quick fix option which will bring roads to their pre-storm condition will cost just over 13 million.

The New Zealand Transport Agency has approved almost 5 million dollars worth of repair work on 49 of the high priority slips, with work just getting underway.
