Monday’s weather outlook

A front moves very slowly northwards over the lower North Island on Monday, trapped in a northwesterly airflow. Meanwhile an area of low pressure passes over the South Island moving west to east.

Mostly cloudy skies for the upper North Island on Monday, chance of a shower or two, more from afternoon; winds from the north or northwest. Afternoon high’s in the 15 to 18 degree range.

Mostly cloudy skies for the lower western North Island with showers, rain for Taranaki with the odd heavy fall possible then easing later in the afternoon or evening. Plenty of high cloud along the east coast, a few spots of rain may spread into the Wairarapa at times. Afternoon high’s in the low to mid teens in the west, late teens or perhaps even early twenties along the east coast.

The West Coast of the South Island sees showers, some may be heavy at times mainly north of the Glaciers then easing later in the evening. Nelson and Marlborough sees morning rain clear then some sun breaks through with west to northwest winds. North of Banks Peninsula, conditions are mostly sunny all day, a southerly flick may move through late afternoon or evening with the chance of a shower. South of Banks Peninsula conditions start out mainly sunny then southerlies developing during the morning bring cloud and a few showers, especially inland. The odd isolated shower may even be heavy then conditions drying out in the evening.

Southland and Otago have cloudy areas and a few showers, showers may be heavy for parts of North Otago then easing during the afternoon. Conditions becoming mainly dry in the evening, winds mostly light. High’s for most in the South Island tomorrow are in the low double figure to mid teens arena, Banks Peninsula northwards in the east sees high’s get into the late teens.
