InfoGraphic: The Big Picture for Saturday / Sunday

A ridge pushes over New Zealand on Saturday, extending out from an anticyclone in the Tasman Sea. The anticyclone extends over the country on Sunday.

Mostly sunny for the western North Island on Saturday, southerlies pick up in the east bringing some increasing cloud, chance of a shower about Wairarapa. Mostly cloudy for the South Islands east coast, there may be a shower or drizzle patch, mainly morning. Cloud starts to break late afternoon or evening. Any morning cloud clears along the West Coast then mostly sunny.

Some cloud for Northland may bring a shower at times through the day on Sunday, any morning showers about East Cape clear. A mix of sun and cloud elsewhere with the low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening in the west between Taranaki and Kapiti. For the South Island, most regions see some cloud at some point but mostly sunny weather is expected in the afternoon, just the West Coast could see cloud more frequent at all times of the day.
