Heating up – The Big Picture on Wednesday

A northwesterly airflow covers most of New Zealand, while a ridge sits over Northland and Auckland – as high temperatures dominate in the east of both islands.

It’s looking mainly sunny in the east of New Zealand, with very warm afternoon conditions for some, though coastal areas may stay cooler with a northeast breeze blowing.

Some high cloud develops in Southland & Otago from afternoon, and then Canterbury later in the day.
There are areas of cloud about western coastlines too, with the chance of a shower now and then – otherwise mainly dry.
Rain moves into Fiordland in the evening, becoming heavy in patches overnight.

Northland and Auckland see mainly sunny conditions, with light winds in the morning and afternoon sea breezes.
