Friday’s national forecast

A ridge pushes over the South Island today meanwhile a low moves over the North Island bringing unsettled conditions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning sunny areas, chance of a shower about mainly in the west. Afternoon showers develop for most (possibly heavy in isolated spots with thunder) then easing late afternoon / evening as north to northwesterly winds change southwest.
Highs: 16-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain, easing from afternoon then clearing in the evening. Southeasterly winds, gusty about the coast then easing later in the day.
Highs: 13-15

Eastern North Island

Mostly cloudy, rain about Wairarapa then easing in the afternoon. Dry further north then showers develop in the afternoon. Southwesterlies. 
Highs: 12-17

Wellington

Showers ease, mostly clearing early afternoon but the odd one may linger through till evening. A mostly cloudy day, a chance of some sun before dusk. Fresh southerlies ease later in the day.
Highs: 10-11

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning showers clear Marlborough then afternoon sunny spells break through, southerly winds ease. Nelson sees morning cloud then a mostly sunny afternoon, southerlies ease tending light northerly after midday.
Highs: 12-13

Canterbury

Morning cloud about South Canterbury breaks away then mostly sunny, further north showers with snow flurries to 400m clear by midday then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. Southwesterlies ease gradually dying away. A frosty start about inland South Canterbury.
Highs: 8-10

West Coast

Sunny with any early cloud clearing, southeasterlies die out in the afternoon.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, coastal cloud for Otago clears away in the morning. Light winds.
Highs: 7-10
