– TODAY TO BE HOTTEST DAY SINCE LAST SUMMER
If you love hot, dry, weather – then you’re going to love this week. It’s my official prediction that Summer has unofficially started!! Some places may be in for 10 days of dry weather as a super high spreads from Australia and across New Zealand. The sun is packing a punch, UV rays are very high now, and gardens are drying out.
Long range forecasts prepared by our weather partner Weather.Com show inland parts of the South Island reaching upwards of 25 degrees this week with a number of traditional hot spots such as Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay and Bay of Plenty also reaching the mid 20’s.
Yesterday a string of towns from Northland to northern Southland reached the lower 20’s and as skies clear further today we’ll probably see the hottest day since last Summer.
Just remember the sun lotion and UV safe sunglasses – our UV rays are already matching the most extreme conditions in many northern hemisphere regions.
Oh and for those gardeners out there, if water restrictions aren’t an issue where you live, give your lawn and garden plenty of water now – this is the time of year to make plants grow rapidly. And while mowing your lawns might not be appealing, giving it a good soak once or twice a week right now will ensure the grass stays that lovely rich green colour.
