VIDEO: This Week: A nationwide southerly, gales in Auckland, snow in the southern ranges

This week is a classic winter set up although the temperatures won’t be too brutal despite a nationwide southerly coming in for Tuesday and Wednesday.

There could be well over a metre of snow on the mountain tops of the Southern Alps while 100 to 200mm of rain falls along the West Coast.

On Wednesday Auckland city faces gales which could bring trees down and cut power. Conditions improve by Saturday.
