Fili today gets closer to East Cape and Gisborne before departing away from the North Island overnight.

A lot of heavy rain still to come through and slips, flooding and road closures are all a possibility.

The good news is that weather clears up fast on Thursday with sunnier weather for the long weekend – although a cooler change in Southland brings showers on Saturday and easterlies in Australia bring more La Nina showers.
