A low pressure system passes over central New Zealand tonight, many places see rain or showers with heavy rain about North Canterbury in particular then easing later in the night. South Westland and Fiordland look like they’ll be the main dry regions.

Cloudy spells and the odd shower, northwesterly breezes. Winds change westerly overnight.

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Periods of rain, easing later this evening. Northerly winds. Rain moves into Bay Of Plenty more this evening with thunderstorms possible later on about eastern Bay Of Plenty.

Eastern North Island
Cloudy with northeasterly winds, a brief period of rain this evening then clearing. Skies clearing up overnight with winds tending more northwest.

Periods of rain with north to northeasterly winds.
