Thursday’s national forecast – More thunderstorms

A low pressure centre sits out to the west of the North Island today meanwhile a broader and weaker area of low pressure covers the country. Some instability this afternoon especially for the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy, the odd shower possible. Showers more likely in the afternoon, one or two could become heavy with thunder (especially Auckland into Waikato) then clearing evening. Northerly winds.
Highs: 23-25

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning sun possible but expect showers for Taranaki, showers for most in the afternoon becoming heavy with thunderstorms, clearing at night. Light winds.
Highs: 19-23

Eastern North Island

Morning cloud breaks to sun, isolated showers develop about the ranges in the afternoon, turning to rain then drifting towards the coast in the evening, clearing overnight. Light winds tend to the east or southeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 21-23

Wellington

Cloudy areas, the odd shower. Southerly winds.
Highs: 18-22

Marlborough & Nelson

Partly cloudy, a few afternoon showers possible about the ranges. East to southeasterly winds, afternoon northerlies possible for Nelson.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury

Partly cloudy, isolated showers may develop about the high country close to the main divide in the afternoon. Easterly winds.
High: 17-21

West Coast

Partly cloudy, isolated showers develop about the ranges in the afternoon, one or two may become heavy with some thunder then clearing at night. Light winds.
Highs: 20-23

Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud, isolated showers develop for inland areas during the afternoon, one or two could become heavy with thunderstorms then clearing at night. Light winds, northeasterlies for coastal Otago become a little breezy after midday,
